Euregio Tour

Vom 5. bis 8. September stand mein letztes Etappen-Rennen für diese Saison auf dem Programm. Es bestand aus einem Zeitfahren und 3 Etappen, welche in Holland, Deutschland und Belgien stattfanden.

From 5th until 8th September my last stages-race for this season was on the program. It consisted a timetrial and 3 stages, which took place in Holland, Germany and Belgium.


stage 1: Teampresentation

Dienstag:
Das Etappen-Rennen begann mit einem 11km langen Zeitfahren in Leende/ Holland. Es gewann Kristin Armstrong (USA) vor Loes Gunnewijk (Buitenpoort) und Natalie von unserer Mannschaft. Ich belegte den 27.Platz und war mit meiner Leistung zufrieden, nachdem die letzten 2Wochen ja gar nicht bei mir gut verliefen.

Tuesday:
The stages-race began with a 11km timetrial in Leende/ Holland. Kristin Armstrong (USA) won it before Gunnewijk (Buitenpoort) and Natalie from our team. I became 27th place and was satisfied with my race after the last 2weeks, which were not really succesfully for me at all.


stage 1: I am in action on the TT

Mittwoch:
Diese Etappe war 95km lang und führte duch die Hügel durch Limburg. Zu Beginn bildete sich eine Gruppe mit Ann van Rie (Lotto), Luise Keller (Buitenpoort) und Coco von unserem Team, also 3 gute Bergfahrer. Doch Team USA holte die Ausreisser wieder ein und so kam es zu einem Sprint von ca 22 Fahrerinnen, den Loes Gunnewijk (Buitenpoort) gewann, vor Kate Bates (Nürnberg) und Kristing Armstrong. In der Gesamtwerung führt weiterhin Armstrong vor Gunnewijk und Natty. Ich belegt wiederum Platz 27 und merkte, das meine Form weiter gut war.


stage 2: I am on the decent

Wednesday:
This stage was 95km long and went through the dutch hills in Limburg. At the beginning, a group with Ann van Rie (lottery), Luise Keller (Buitenpoort) and Coco from our team formed a group, this were 3 good climber. But the team of USA close the gap and so it came to a sprint of ca 22 riders, which was won by Gunnewijk (Buitenpoort), before Kate Bates (Nuremberg) and Kristing Armstrong.
In the GC Armstrong leads further before Gunnewijk and Natty. I was again on place 27 and think my form is good again.

Donnerstag:
Diesmal ging es nach Deutschland, also meiner Heimat, durch die Berge rund um Aachen. Wir mussten 115km absolvieren. Buitenpoort attackierte gleich zu Beginn und so entstand eine Gruppe mit Suzanne van Veen (Buitenpoort), Sabine Fischer (Nürnberg) und einer Fahrerin vom Bizkaia-Team. Diese 3Fahrerinnen wurden allerdings an der 3.Bergwertung bei ca 50km wieder eingeholt, dank unserer guten Mannschaftsleistung.

Allerdings gab es vor dem Berg eine gefährliche Abfahrt, wobei Mirjam Melchers (Buitenpoort) sehr schwer gestürzt war und sich schwere Verletzungen zugezogen hat….soweit ich gehört habe: Brüche von Hüfte, Becken, Kiefer und Zähne und offene Wunde im Gesicht.
Auf diesem Wege wünsche ich Mirjam gute Besserung und hoffe, sie schnell wieder gesund zu sehen!!!

Nach ca 70km gab es mehrere Attacken, wobei ich dann alleine weggefahren bin. Nach ca 40 km Alleinfahrt zum Ziel gewann ich diese Etappe mit noch 27 sek Vorsprung. Natürlich habe ich mich riesig über den Sieg gefreut und riesigen Dank an meine Mannschaft, aber natürlich waren und sind meine Gedanken auch bei Mirjam!
In der Gesamtwertung führt weiterhin Kristin Armstrong vor Gunnewijk und Natty. Ich habe mich auf den 24.Platz verbessert.


stage 3: can't believe I won a stage

Thursday:
This time we went to Germany, my homecountry, through the mountains around Aachen. We had to ride 115km. Buitenpoort attacked immediately at the beginning and so a group with Suzanne van Veen (Buitenpoort), Sabine Fischer (Nuremberg) and one rider of the Bizkaia-team went away. These 3riders were overtaken on the 3rd climb by km 50, thanks to our good team-work.

But before this 3rd climb we had a really dangerous downhill with lots of sharp corners, where Mirjam Melchers (Buitenpoort) crashed very heavily and got really bad injuries. So far I heard, she broke her hip, pelvis, jaw and teeth and got also open wounds in her face.
On this way, I wish Mirjam a speedy recovery and hope to see her healthy back on the bike!!!

The race got further on. After ca 70km, there were several attacks whereby I got alone away. After a long 40 km timetrial I won the stage with 27sec before a group of 35riders. Of course I was really happy and have to thank my teammates for the fantastic work they did in the end of the race, but my thoughts were naturally also by Mirjam! Kristin Armstrong leads further before Gunnewijk and Natty in the GC. I am now on place 24.


stage 3: podium

Freitag:
Die letzte Etappe führte über die Hügel in Belgien und wir mussten noch mal 125 km fahren. Wir wollten natürlich den 3.Platz von Natty verteidigen, da ihre Schwester Kate nur 2 sek hinter ihr lag und eine sehr gute Sprinterin ist, und so war ich wieder in einer Spitzengruppe vertreten, um die Sekunden wegzuholen, die es am Ziel gab. Doch Buitenpoort wollte natürlich auch noch den Gesamtsieg und so fuhren sie das Loch wieder zu und es folgte eine Attacke nach der anderen, aber es kam doch zu einem Massensprint, den Kate dann doch für sich entschied vor Kristin Armstrong und Tina Mayoli-Pic (USA). Kristin Armstrong gewann somit die Gesamtwertung vor Loes Gunnewijk und Kate sicherte sich noch den 3.Platz. Natty wurde 4. Aber ich denke, das wir in der gesamten Rundfahrt eine sehr gute Mannschaftsleistung abgeliefert haben.


stage 4: signing in

Friday:
The last stage went over the hills in Belgium and we had to ride 125 km. We wanted to defend that 3rd place of Natty, because her sister Kate was only 2 sek behind her and she is a very good sprinter, and so I was represented again in a frontgroup, which got away in the beginning of the race. But Buitenpoort also still wanted to get the GC victory and so this team closed the gap to our group and a lot of attacks started, but in the final it came to a bunchsprint, which Kate won before Kristin Armstrong and Tina Mayoli-Pic (USA). Kristin Armstrong won the Overalclassement before Gunnewijk and Kate. Natty became 4th, Coco 11th and I was on 24th.
However, I think we had a really great week together and did a good teamwork.
